Welcome back to another school year

We are all looking forward to another school year of learning!

We will be doing many extra curricular activities, including;

Gaelic football, working on our school garden, music classes, Irish dancing, swimming. We will continue our work with the Green Flag on the theme of Biodiversity and will  have guest speakers about this topic.

Comenius trip to Iceland

Múinteoir Cepta visited, Iceland in September with some of the sixth class and their parents. They had a wonderful experience and will have memories that will last forever. They visited the Skógafoss Waterfall, went whale watching and saw geysers but to mention a few.

There will be visits to Germany, Finland and Belgium in the future and we will look forward to learning about their countries and celebrating their cultures!

Our Visits

Sister Karol from Kylemore Abbey visited the School. The children did a Music workshop. They learned about the Pentatonic scale, keeping the beat and some other great songs.

Brendan Smith visited the Senior Classes. He is a facilitator of The Scratch Programme.  Scratch is a visual programming language that. The children participate in making interactive stories,  animations, games, music, and art and share these creations on the web.

Noreen Burke from the Aquarium visited the school. She brought with her, a variety of sea fossils and artefacts. Also David, a marine biologist visited  the school and brought sea creatures for the children to observe and examine. The creatures included crabs, crab shells, limpets and rainbow fish. The children interacted well with both visitors and enjoyed the experience immensely.

Making the most of the September sunshine:

We planted tulips as part of the Comenius Project. We will monitor their growth over the coming months and compare the results with our other Comenius partner countries.

We also participated in the Crocus Project. We planted crocus bulbs in the shape of The Star of David. This is in memory of the children who died in the concentration camps.

BEO Project

In conjunction with Brendan Smith we are undertaking a heritage project entitled The Beo Project. This project was launched in our school on the  5th of November  from 2-3pm. It encompasses collecting old photos, scanning them and subsequently uploading them to the Beo Project website. So, therefore, we are looking for old photos of Cashel and its environs! You are invited to send in photos to share – they will be scanned and returned to you asap!

This project is ideal for this year- the Year of the Gathering– as it provides a forum/website for people abroad to retrace their steps and see life in Cashel in former times. More info from the school at 086-8207631.
The address for the project is: www.flickr.com/photos/irishbeo/sets – check it out.. you might see your relations there! Scroll down to Cashel/Connemara and the photos uploaded so far are there. Presently, we are tagging or noting the names of those in the photos and your help is needed so contact us if you can assist!

School Sports Day

School Sports Day was on the 26th of June. We were lucky to have lovely weather on the day. It was well organised and turned out to be a great success. All children took part in a wide range of activities and were all awarded with medals for participating.

Cumann na mBuncoil

This year we have already begun to train and prepare for the competition! We all love sports and enjoy playing football during the breaks. Some of us train with the local Cashel/Carna/Na Piarsaigh team.

Last year, he boys in the senior room entered the Cumann na Mbunscoil. They successfully won the competition. The team captain was Andrew Nee with his team players Eoghan, Alexander, Theo, Cillín, Aodhan, Dylan, and Seamus. In another match (Bogweek) we are very proud of them for winning the ‘Best Sporting Team.’ Sadly three members of our school team will be leaving the three boys in sixth class Andrew, Eoghan and Alexander. We still hope to be winning many trophies and we thank the people who helped the boys train.

Intergenerational Day Friday 14th June

We enjoyed another Intergenerational Day this year in the school, which is held annually. There was great support on the day with many parents and teachers sharing their skills and talents with each other. There were many workshops including gardening, fishing, french, clay, origami, baking, arts and crafts, knitting and much more.

The school concert followed the workshops.  The junior room sang rhymes and did the Haka for the audience. The seniors did Irish dancing and played various tunes on the  their accordions and tin whistles.  The performed a great variety of songs from Feel the Beat to Mamma Mia and Footloose as Gaeilge.

We wish to thank everyone involved in helping us to make the day so special for all.
